Hands of Compassion Youth Sports Day

Youth Sports Day

On a bright and joy-filled Saturday, the grounds of Bethany Christian Center came alive with laughter, competition, and powerful moments of ministry as we hosted our much-anticipated Youth Sports Day.

What began as a day of sports and games became so much more — a day of connection, purpose, and the Gospel of Jesus in action.

A Day of Energy and Engagement

Young people from our church and surrounding communities came out in numbers, ready to compete in soccer, netball, relay races, tug-of-war, and team challenges. The excitement was tangible, the energy contagious, and the teamwork beautiful to watch.

But beneath the surface of every pass, sprint, and cheer, something deeper was happening.

Preaching Through Play

At Bethany, we believe that ministry doesn’t only happen inside church walls. That’s why we used each moment of the Sports Day to reflect the love and message of Jesus. Before the games began, we gathered everyone for a short devotion centered on Hebrews 12:1-2, encouraging the youth to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us,” fixing their eyes on Jesus.

Throughout the day, leaders and volunteers shared testimonies, offered prayer, and created a safe space for young people to ask questions, build relationships, and encounter the love of Christ — some for the very first time.

Why It Matters

Youth today face real pressures — peer influence, identity struggles, and spiritual confusion. Events like these offer more than entertainment — they create opportunities for mentorship, positive community, and spiritual awakening.

Sports Day helped our youth:

  • Build friendships rooted in faith
  • Develop teamwork and confidence
  • Hear the Gospel in a way that speaks their language
  • See that church is a place of joy, belonging, and purpose
A Lasting Impact

By the end of the day, tired but smiling faces were everywhere. For many, it wasn’t just the highlight of their weekend — it was a turning point in their walk with God.

At Bethany Christian Center, we remain committed to reaching the next generation — not just with words, but through action, creativity, and love. And if it takes a soccer ball and a race to lead someone to Jesus, we’ll do it again and again.
