“Building that house was not just a project — it was an act of worship. It was our church stepping into our God-given role to reflect His heart on earth.”

In 2011, Bethany Christian Center embarked on a life-changing mission — to build a house for a family that had been living in a shack under dire conditions. What began as a burden on our hearts became a powerful testimony of what happens when the Church responds to God’s call to care for the vulnerable.
A Call to Action, Not Just Compassion
The project began when members of the church discovered the harsh living conditions of an elderly church congregant. Moved by the Spirit and guided by love, the church didn’t just pray — we acted. Plans were drawn, funds were raised, and what seemed impossible became a home. It wasn’t just about bricks and mortar; it was about dignity, hope, and obedience.
“Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?”
— James 2:15–16 (NIV)
The Bible doesn’t only encourage acts of compassion — it commands them. We are called not just to preach the Gospel, but to live it out, especially among the poor, the widowed, and the orphaned.
Why It Matters: A Biblical Mandate
Scripture is filled with God’s heart for the vulnerable:
-
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…”
— James 1:27 -
“Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; uphold the rights of the afflicted and oppressed.”
— Psalm 82:3 -
“If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?”
— 1 John 3:17 -
“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done.”
— Proverbs 19:17
“Building that house was not just a project — it was an act of worship. It was our church stepping into our God-given role to reflect His heart on earth.”
Final Thoughts
This house remains a testimony — not just of what Bethany Christian Center did in 2011, but of what the Church is called to do every day: lift the broken, provide for the needy, and be the hands and feet of Jesus in a hurting world.
As we continue to serve, may we never forget that doing good is not a seasonal campaign — it is the lifestyle of a believer.
